If you are a foreigner and are planning a trip to India, then it would be a good idea to read some of our tips to help you on your next trip here. India is a multifaceted, multilingual and multiethnic land. To travel around here, it’s necessary that certain cultures of the land be followed.

Plan your trip to India India is a land that many Indians need more than a year to explore. Always keep in mind that bargaining for prices is required and you might be surprised with some of the discounts that you can get if you actually made that effort to push for a cheaper price. Don’t wear slippers into the household unless the owner already has it on Indians generally consider it a disrespect if you are going to trod into their houses with your boots filled with slush, dirt and mud right into the living room. When we say spicy, we mean REALLY spicy Indians are known to have a tongue that can handle the spices well. A lot of the foreign food fall short when matched with the palette of the Indian spices. Even if you down a bucket of water.

Allow at least a couple of layers to cover whatever is hidden inside. Your bra is another good place to store your money. Bras with removable cookie pads are the ideal type, as you can just put the money inside the pad pockets.

If you take the train or bus, sit in the aisle seat and place the bag or jacket on the window seat.

Do not hesitate to call the police or the nearest security guard if you feel your safety or security is threatened.

It is a good news for everyone who love undersea tourism. You do not need to make every effort and waste your time any more to go to Wakatobi Marine National Park, South East Sulawesi Indonesia, a great place to explore amazing undersea scenery. From now on, it is easier and faster to get there than before, because many direct flights is scheduled from and to Wakatobi.

Some time ago, to reach Wakatobi, traveler must first traveled to Makassar or Kendari (province capital of South East Sulawesi) by planes or ferries from Jakarta or Bali (to the present time, there is no direct international flights to Makassar). Then, they must connected their travel by plane or boat/local ferries to go to Bau-Bau (transit town) before they got the point of Wakatobi.

And the good news is, Usman Syafei Jamal as Minister of Transportation of Indonesian Government, made Matahora Airport official at the end of June 2009. The airport had been developed since 2007, located in Wangi-Wangi, a regional capital of Wakatobi. Matahora’s runway are 1400 m and 30 m of its length and width. Next, it will be added to become 2100 m in 2010 in order that runway can be landed by plane as Boeing 737.

Thus, there are two airports operated in Wakatobi. The first one is Maranggo Airport that operated by Wakatobi Dive Resort who serves direct flight occasionally from Bali to Tomia (exclusive tourist package/air charter).

The second one is the airport that we have just talked above, Matahora Airport. By now, there is only SusiAir who operates ten flights per week (Kendari-Wakatobi-Kendari) and it just takes about 45 minutes in one trip.

Adventure tourism in India specially trekking in Himalayas is increasingly gaining popularity in the recent times. Popular trekking routes in Garhwal, Ladakh, Sikkim and Himachal are visited by numerous trekkers in the peak trekking season between the months of April to November, however some routes are open only for a couple of months every year. So plan your trip meticulously keeping in mind the local terrains, weather conditions, permits available and other essential requirements before trekking in India.

Besides trekking, you can even indulge yourself in other adventure sporting activities like camping, river rafting, skiing and motor biking.

Trekking in Himachal takes place mainly in the Chamba & Manali and Kullu & Lahaul regions. Various grades of treks are available in Himachal Pradesh to attract first timers as well as expert trekkers.

Trekking in Sikkim is common due to the presence of unusual trekking routes. The Kanchenjunga Trek is the most beautiful trekking route, where you can spot beautiful sights of Mount Everest and stunning view of the sunrise over the Kanchenjunga. Trekking in Ladakh & Zanskar in Jammu and Kashmir offers some wonderful trekking trails in Northern India that you must surely visit. Trekking routes here are setup between worlds two of the highest mountain ranges, Himalaya and Karakoram. You can even plan to go for biking and mountaineering after trekking in Ladakh.

Backpackers. I think you’ll agree there’s nothing that quite compares to the simple, pure fun of backpacking. In fact, the simplicity of it is actually why it is so rewarding.

But the wilderness has a way of magnifying even the little overlooked details, the little mistakes in gear or planning. Your safety and enjoyment of your hiking trip depend on your preparedness. Choosing and bringing the right gear and clothing. Physical preparedness. Packing properly and efficiently. And so on.

This site will provide tips and information you need to pick the right gear and plan your trips … so you can spend more time in the wilderness where you’d rather be!

A little about me …
I’ve been hiking and backpacking for over a decade. I love long-distance backpacking — I’ve hiked the length of Utah on the Great Western Trail (two months the first time, a month the second time). I’ve hiked 600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in the Sierra Nevada Range on a two month trip. Another memorable and beautiful outing was a month-long backpacking trip in Washington’s Cascades. I’m also the author of Utah Thirteeners, a guide to hiking Utah’s 21 highest summits, and have climbed all 29 of Utah’s county peaks.

My intent with this site is simply to provide some of the trail-tested bits of backpacking advice and tips that I’ve learned over the years, along with any other good, useful information I can find on the subject of backpacking.
